Streamline Spring Stroke Clinics

Streamline's Spring Stroke Clinics are designed for the competitive swimmer (ages 6-14) who is eager to get ready for their upcoming summer swim team season.  Our spring clinics will focus on improving stroke technique and efficiency, learning proper starts and turns, and building endurance in a "swim team practice" format.   We will utilize stroke drills, interval training, and fun games and relays to help build your child’s swimming performance and confidence in all aspects of the competitive swimming environment.  We offer four levels of instruction to meet the needs of all competitive swimmers.

Tiger Sharks:     The Tiger Shark group is designed for swimmers (age 6-9) who have had at least one year of competitive swimming experience.   To be eligible for the Tiger Shark group the swimmer must be able to complete 25 yards of the pool (1 length) of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke without assistance or without stopping on the lane lines.   They should also be able to comfortably swim for a full practice session of 50 minutes where we will complete 400-600 yards in total (16-24 legths of the pool).   The Tiger Sharks will focus on learning proper stroke technique in all four competitive strokes.   We will also emphasize diving and backstroke starts off the blocks and will begin to work on some endurance and speed training.

Makos:   The Mako group is designed for swimmers (age 7-11) who have had at least 2 years of competitive swimming experience and can comfortably swim all four competitive strokes.   They should be able to complete a 100 IM (1 length each of fly, back, breast and free) without stopping and should be comfortable completing 4x50 freestyle on at least a 1:40 interval (swimmer finishes 50 yards in approximately 1:10 with a 30 second rest and repeats 3 times).   This group will generally swim 800-1000 yards in a practice session.   Our goals for the Mako group will be to continue focusing on proper stroke technique while placing a stronger emphasis on building endurance and speed through interval training.   The Makos will also be working on starts, turns and finishes for all four strokes.

Hammerheads:   The Hammerhead group is our most advanced swimming group.  It is designed for the swimmer (ages 9-14) who has a solid foundation in the sport of swimming.   Before enrolling in this group, the swimmer must be able to complete a 200 IM (2 lengths each of fly, back, breast and free) without stopping and should be comfortable completing 6x50 freestyle on at least a 1:25 interval (swimmer finishes 50 yards in approximately :55 with 30 seconds rest and repeats 5 times).   Hammerheads should be familiar with basic swimming terminology, rules and lane etiquette and are expected to be able to complete 1000-1400 yards in a practice session.   There will be a very strong emphasis on building endurance and speed as well as perfecting all four strokes, starts, turns and finishes.
